ELA: Reading & Writing week of 10.19.15

Happy Monday, 7C! This week in reading you’re going to be making sense of what you read to build the story in your minds. You’ll look at holding onto details in the stories so you can prepare for what might happen next on Monday/Tuesday, and Wednesday/Thursday will be all about balancing details and big ideas while summarizing or paraphrasing chunks of text. On Friday, there will be a quiz over your learning from the first half of Unit 2.

In writing this week, you’ll be moving into drafting and revision work. Be prepared this week to really get into making clear revisions by spending time with a first draft before rewriting a second one. Clear changes should be present, based on the minilessons in revising this week. You’ll be focusing on revising to make sure the problem in your short story is developed.

Homework is the usual: Read 150 minutes and log it. Remember we are using the online logging system. Here’s the link. If you haven’t activated your account using the handout from class on Friday, take the time to do so as soon as possible. In writing, your homework will be to complete some grammar practice in the Language Handbook you were given. Monday/Tuesday you’ll be assigned pg. 10, dealing with Prepositions. Wednesday/Thursday you should complete pgs. 78-79, identifying sentence structures.

Ms. Reid has morning duty this week, so Wednesday morning tutorials will be cancelled. If you need any specific assistance, please see me in TEAM Time some other day this week!

For students who attended the Yellowstone trip ONLY: Attached below is the make-up information from the time you were away. You will receive this in class or TEAM Time today, Monday (10/19). See me if you have any questions.
