English – Reading Log Online!!!

January 26, 2012 at 2:53 pm (English, Uncategorized)

I am trying something new: online reading log submission. No more losing bookmarks or having to remember which color to use!

Below are directions for submitting your reading log online through the 7C cluster blog. Students who try this new (and hopefully improved) reading log before February 16th will receive extra credit!!

Reading Log Directions

To complete a reading log, you will need to go to our cluster blog, poms7c.wordpress.com. Choose the link at the top right titled “Submit Reading Log.” Fill in your answers and click “submit” when you are done.

If you read more than one book, you will need to submit a different form for each book. I will combine your entries and calculate your total pages.

Below are the questions you will answer every time you submit a reading log. You will choose two DIFFERENT questions for each reading log you submit. All questions can be used with any book except #12. Answers should be a minimum of 6 sentences and include textual evidence.

  1. The person/force who acts against the main character in the story is called the antagonist. Who is the antagonist in the story? Describe how he/she/it acts against the main character.
  2. What did the main character learn from the events in the book?
  3. Create a report card for a character in your book. Give the character grades on: Honesty, Courage, Perseverance, Ingenuity, and Self Confidence. Explain the reason for each grade.
  4. How are your feelings and the feelings of a character in your book alike? How are they different?
  5. Every story revolves around a conflict or a problem. Sometimes there are more than one. Describe all the conflicts and problems in the story. Identify which one is most important to the action in the story.
  6. What is the mood of the book? How does the author create that mood? Find passages in the text that reveal two different moods.
  7. What literary techniques did you find? Flashback? Foreshadowing? Figurative language? Find examples of two of these techniques.
  8. What was the author saying about life and living through this book?  How have you changed after reading this book?
  9. Does this book seem similar to any other book you have read? In what ways are the two books similar?
  10. Did the book end the way you thought it would? What clues did the author give you that made you think that? Did you think these clues were important when you read them?
  11. What is the genre of your book? Give examples that support your decision.
  12. NON-FICTION ONLY: Does the author weave opinions into facts? Give two examples from the text when the author does this. Has this book changed your thinking about the topic? How?
